A Night at the Orpheum Theater
Last night, we took a trip to the Orpheum Theater to hear the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra perform live along with the Wizard of Oz.
One of the casualties of Hurricane Katrina was the loss of some of our great theaters. Just recently, the Saenger theater reopened and began hosting Broadway in New Orleans again. However, the one theater I was most interested in reopening was the Orpheum. I have such good memories of watching the Louisiana Philharmonic play at the Orpheum. After a multi-million dollar renovation, the Orpheum opened this October, after having been vacant since 2005. So when my niece suggested we go see the Wizard of Oz - I jumped at the chance.
It was a wonderful evening. The orchestra sounded great, and, because this is New Orleans, many people showed up in Costumes. We had a great time.
The Orpheum is conveniently located in the Central Business District, so it would be very easy to make an entire evening out of it. If you come to town and decide to go see something at the Orpheum, be sure to make reservations either before or after at Domenica - one of my favorite italian restaurants in the city.
