The Neighborhood

The St. Charles Guest House is located in the historic Garden District where you'll find some of the most significant architecture in Louisiana. We are also located a block away from the historic St. Charles Avenue Streetcar line, which can whisk you through the Warehouse and Arts district to the French Quarter.  Some of our favorite neighborhood haunts are below! Also check out our blog, where we try new places around the city.

Just a few blocks from the guest house is the world famous Commander's Palace.  If the dinner prices make your eyebrows raise, Commander's has a great economical weekday lunch, where you can sip on $.25 Martinis.  Speaking of bargains, for oysters, the Blind Pelican, located right around the corner from the Guest House has oysters on the half shell for $3 a dozen during Happy Hour.  Click the photo above for more options!

The National World War II Musueum, Civil War Museum,  Ogden Musueum of Southern, and Contemporary Arts Center are located only a half mile from the Guest  House.  Looking to buy some art? Check out our friend Simon Signs, who specializes in the brightly colored and cheeky signs you see in many local establishments. Click the photo above for more options!

If you're looking for a cold beer as an antidote to the New Orleans heat, look no further than the Avenue Pub.  The Avenue Pub specializes in any type of beer you can think of - including craft beers not available in many other places in the country!  They host monthly tapping events with local and national breweries, and their balcony is a great place to sit and people watch on St. Charles Ave. Click the photo above for more options!

Tipitinas and the Howlin Wolf, where many of the big name acts play in the city, are each located about a mile from the Guest House.  But in New Orleans you don't have to pay to hear great music! The Cirlce Bar at Lee Circle has great new acts, and there is always a musical festival at Lafayette Square Park, which is right by the St. Charles Avenue Streetcar Line. Click the photo above for more options!
