Katrina Update

The St. Charles Guest House is up and running! Our buildings received some roof and ceiling damage, but no flooding, as the Garden District, along with the French Quarter, is situated in the HIGHEST part of the city, and repairs are complete. We truly feel blessed.  We are happy  to  be offering the travelling public the same simple, cozy and affordable lodging alternative we've given them for the past 26+ years.

Now, without a doubt, New Orleans is and forever will be America's most interesting city.

We have been so fortunate to host many volunteer groups who've come to New Orleans to help in our recovery. The 1890 St. Charles Guest house welcomes you to New Orleans and the historic Garden District where you'll find some of the most significant architecture in Louisiana.  We are on the St. Charles Avenue streetcar (trolley) line, and a very short walk, or ride, to the French Quarter, Bourbon Street, D-Day and Southern Art Museums, Art District, Convention Center, RiverWalk, Emeril's (and numerous other famous restaurants). New Orleans history, art and architecture, from 1805 onward, come alive in our Garden District neighborhood.  Antique shopping abounds three blocks away on world famous  Magazine Street, the "Street of Dreams", home to both New Orleans' elegance and decadence. Haunted History tours of our neighborhood (including former home of Ann Rice) meet nearby. Mardi Gras parades pass one block away from our doorstep.  We give a special welcome to (now closed) LaSalle Hotel Jazz Fest and other former guests.

Wi-Fi Internet is available at our hotel for mobile or laptop devices.

Our hotel guests have this secluded pool and patio, and many of our guests who are attending weddings around town use it as a pre or post wedding impromptu party site!
We're definitely low-tech and un-pretentious (no phones or TVs, but we do have Wi-Fi), and many of our rooms have antiques, so the overall feeling is quaint and quintessentially old-New Orleans.
Guests are invited to fix themselves coffee or tea, afternoons in our poolside room, where they've been known to have sightings of our "good ghosts", the Snowden twins from Liverpool.

We're eclectic, a bit eccentric, and quintessentially "Old New Orleans".

The ST. CHARLES GUEST HOUSE and NEW ORLEANS are an ideal combination for a relaxed, affordable - yet rich - experience. They don't call us the "Big Easy" for nothing!

Many beautifully restored 19th century homes help to create an interesting mix of both commercial and residential in our neighborhood. Elegant, famous New Orleans restaurants and local eateries are nearby.
